What's Special about the Ti-84 Plus CE School Property Edition Graphing Calculator?

The Ti-84 Plus CE is a widely loved and popular graphing calculator in the modern math classroom. As a successor to the Ti-84 Plus C Silver Edition Graphing Calculator, the Ti-84 Plus CE quickly became a favorite due to its thin profile, its bright and colorful screen, its rechargeable battery, and its durability.

Since the original release of the Ti-84 Plus CE, the calculators have had some minor revisions over the years. Because of this, we're updating our post on comparing the classic Ti-84 Plus CE to the Ti-84 Plus CE School Property Edition.

Ti-84 Plus CE School Property Edition Cosmetics

Color

The Ti-84 Plus CE School Property Edition graphing calculator, since its release, has been available in its signature gray & EZSpot Yellow duo.

The normal Ti-84 Plus CE (as of 2022, now referred to as the Ti-84 Plus CE Python Edition) has been available in about 20+ colors over the years. If you're interested in knowing what colors the Ti-84 Plus CE has been available in, read our blog post on all of the Ti-84 Plus CE Colors.

Labeling

The Ti-84 Plus CE School Property Edition graphing calculator is labeled, in a bright yellow font, "School Property," at the bottom of the front of the calculator.

The normal Ti-84 Plus CE simply displays the well-known Texas Instruments Logo in its place.

Protective Covers

When purchasing a Ti-84 Plus CE Teacher Pack, protective slide covers will not be included as the covers cannot be used at the same time as the charging station. When purchasing a Ti-84 Plus CE Remote Learning Pack, a set of 10 EZSpot Yellow slide covers are included.

With all purchases of the normal Ti-84 Plus CE, a protective slide cover is included in a color that compliments the calculator's primary color.

Charging Indicator

As of 2023, there now appears to be a major difference between the Ti-84 Plus CE School Property Edition, and its non-School Property Edition counterparts. This difference is the inclusion of a charging indicator light.

All Ti-84 Plus CE School Property Edition calculators will continue to include a charging indicator light, while the non School Property Edition calculators no longer have them.

What's the benefit of having a charging indicator on the Ti-84 Plus CE for Teachers and Professors?

When calculators are docked in a charging station, it can be difficult to tell if they are finished charging. With a normal Ti-84 Plus CE, you would need to undock each calculator, press the ON button, and then check the battery indicator to see if the calculator is fully charged.

With the School Property Edition Ti-84 Plus CE (and Ti-84 Plus CE manufactured before 2022), when the calculators are docked in a charging station, a quick glance at the calculators can tell you the charging status of all units.

If the charging indicators are off, the calculators aren't plugged in / charging.

If the charging indicators are orange, the calculators are currently charging.

And if the charging indicators are green, the calculators are charged and ready to crunch some numbers!

Other Benefits of Choosing School Property Edition Calculators

  • If a calculator is left on a school bus, a school bus driver will be more likely to return it directly to the school, rather than keep it in a "lost & found."
