The Texas Instruments Ti-84 Evo is the successor to the Ti-84 Plus CE with countless improvements. From the layout and interface to graphing capabilities and built-in apps, a ton has been changed. Whether you're a student tackling your first algebra class or a teacher looking for a smoother classroom experience, here's everything that's new and improved in the TI-84 Evo.
Application have been moved! The TI-84 Plus CE required users to hit the "apps" button to view available applications. The Ti-84 Evo now displays application on the home screen when the calculator is turned on. Each application displays an icon relevant to what the application can do. For example, the Finance application is depicted as an icon with a dollar and coins for easy, quick identification.

The TI-84 Evo features a larger font size when compared to the TI-84 Plus CE for easier readability. The Ti-84 Evo also has larger buttons than the the TI-84 Plus CE. All labeled secondary options have also been moved to the buttons themselves instead of the faceplate.

The TI-84 Evo also has a new key named the “toggle key” appearing above the “enter” key showing two arrows (<>). The toggle key can be hit on the home screen and within the catalog to display “help” information for users.

Readability is enhanced now with exponents being the same size as base numbers. Fractions and the numbers inside of them are now full-sized making readability easier for users. When entering multiplication, you’ll notice a dot, instead of an asterisk. Calculation outputs now appear in green.

The new user interface features the angle mode in use highlighted in blue for clear identification in the top row. When the mode key is entered, the cursor will jump straight down to the angle mode, which is the most changed setting for users, reducing friction. There is also now an added “Gradians” option within the angle settings.
The Math Menu now includes templates for users to reference and improves ease-of-use while providing additional context clues on how to use functions.

The Angle Menu has been expanded and improved. The Matrix Menu has been moved to the “2nd + vars” key and now includes expanded capabilities.
The Distribution Menu has been improved to make finding probability calculations easier.

Within the Statistics Menu, Intervals and Tests lists have been split. Tests and Confidence intervals have been improved, making it easier to find the function needed.

Switching outputs between fraction and decimals is now easier than ever: simply click the toggle key to view the conversion.

The TI-84 Evo features mor space around the entry line for improved readability when compared to the TI-84 Plus CE. If you need to view the function even better, click the toggle key. The function will now be viewable in full-screen mode for editing. Clicking the toggle key again will collapse the full screen.
The border around the graphing area on the TI-84 Plus CE has been removed on the TI-84 Evo. This means the TI-84 Evo has a 50% bigger area for viewing and higher resolution plotting.

The view window also now has a square aspect ratio. This means graphing circles now look like circles instead of ovals.

By default, the TI-84 Evo has “Points of Interest Trace” mode enables. This makes locating intersection points, zeros, and extrema on the Evo quicker and more intuitive. When viewing the function graph and table at the same time, tracing stops on points of interest on the graph. As you trace along the function, the TI-84 Evo will highlight the where the point falls between table values in blue.

The “Transformation graphing” and “Inequality graphing” apps are now viewable from the main menu. Selecting either app will take you straight to the “y=” editor without have to pass through the calculator screen. When one of these apps is running, a red dot indicator will appear next to the menu icon.
Transformation, Inequalities, and Conics apps all auto launch now – no manual confirmation needed! Lines in standard form are now possible within the new Conics app in the TI-84 Evo. You can also now find intersections between standard form and regular equations. With the TI-84 Evo, you can now use equation templates to graph more than one conic at the same time. You can now interact with conics and regular functions that are graphed.
The Polynomial Root Finder and System Solver apps have an updated user interface, making using these apps more intuitive and easier to understand for students.
The Ti-84 Evo has brand new backgrounds! The TI-84 Plus CE features 5 included background images for graphing. The TI-84 Evo features 7 included background images. All background images are new! Both calculators still feature the same solid color backgrounds and the ability to import your own images.

The TI-84 Evo is the next evolution of the Ti-84 Plus CE, and that's exactly what students and teachers needed. By keeping the familiar TI-84 foundation intact while smoothing out years of small frustrations, Texas Instruments has created a calculator that feels genuinely modern without leaving anyone behind. Whether you're graphing your first parabola or diving into statistical analysis, the Evo makes the experience a little cleaner, a little faster, and a lot more readable. It's the TI-84 you always wished you had.
